Bruce’s page
Meet Bruce. He is a Spikey Eye plant. He lives hidden under bushes in a big magical forest.
Bruce started out as two pieces of plaster of paris poured in a glove. It came out as one loose finger and two that were connected with a bit of plaster. The lose finger got attached to the middle of the two fingers. Using some bake and bond between the pieces and a bit of polymer clay around it to fix it in place. After the first bake it was connected very well. Now it was time for a layer of clay and a new bake. After the base it was time to make the details. The eyes are glass cabochons with a pupil painted on them with acrylic paint. The spikes are prebaked translucent polymer clay rolled into spikes and then bend and baked. Under the eyes I put some glow in the dark clay, so they will glow at night. The veins are just rolled pieces of clay, textured with a toothbrush.
For the grass I used a poke tool to take of very small pieces of clay from a ball of clay that I was holding. If I wanted smaller pieces I would use my finger to thin out a bit of the ball and scrape the poke tool along my finger. Then put some bake and bond on the base clay and stick the pieces in the bake and bond. This gives a very nice texture.
For painting I used army painter primer as a base coat. After the base coat I used green for the grass an a white base for Bruce. The magenta and blue violet are alcohol inks. Everything is done with an airbrush. It was my first time using it and I have learned a lot.
